Chipping away slowly at the M2M coal face, we are finally going to have a first draft of most of the wire frames after two weeks. Pretty good going as three weeks ago no designer in the office new anything about the portal. One personal concern is have we had enough time to question the overall GUI paradigm. We have been very reliant on two existing pieces of software GDSP (version one, seren built) and Visual Navigator (which the Netherlands have built) which may be limiting our GUI ideas.
One of the design exercises I used to love doing was imagining one brands website in the style of another. I used to do this as an exercise to get people to open up their minds. It forced you to think differently. With a project such as this I thought I’d look at a different GUI and I picked Honeycomb. I add a get out clause to this, I did it in under two hours so its really just a sketch and not resolved. I was really reading on the web about the new world of post PC design and I came across the ‘Designing and Implementing Android UIs for Phones and Tablets‘ guidelines.
Anyway this is a bit off the beaten track, but blame smashing magazine, and their post on designing for android tablets.
