ABC Design Info graphics

infographic chart on the opportunity gap

Thinking about info graphics, one of my criticisms has been that we don’t spend enough time thinking about the organisation of the information in our finished design. We tend to place it all down in one go. This often leads to congested designs that aren’t easy to scan or navigate. I came across this graphic which I quite like, but I think its doing a few things really well.

a. Very clear title relevant to the subject. So its not called personas or user journey (what it is) its called The Opportunity Gap (what its about). Followed by a useful summary.
b. Simple charts with no words on the diagrams, which prevents them from appearing cluttered and confusing. Also the information provides a comparison, so the reader feels they are learning something.
c. Clear hierarchy of content after the headline graphics subsequent data is clearly laid out below. You know its less important because its further down the layout / page.
d. Colour is very cleverly used here to unify the whole layout. Each ethic group has a colour Black (in turquoise) Hispanic (in yellow) and white (in magenta) are colour coded in the text you don’t need a key for the charts. Very clever but simple trick.
e. Credit where credit is due, and simple display of partner branding.

So I came across this by accident, but I think it does a few things very well and is therefor an effective design. Please go and see the real thing here.
