Speedy Design

If I am working on very small sites, which need a very quick turn around. I often find myself skipping most web development processes. As building  a working site you can quickly adapt as you go along seems to be the most efficient path. This creates some unusual photoshop files which just contain mock ups of bits of the site, never a complete page design. Because you’ve already built it, and are adapting that.

I find this is how most of my work with WordPress goes, its just easier to set up a local host with MAMP and build out the theme. As there are so many grid/css frameworks and ‘blank’ themes out there at the moment you can start from a very advanced spot and design up. The great thing is that very quickly everything feels very real.

The image at the top of the page is of two project I have done where the turn around was very quick. I did them in a day or so. One was a blog I did whilst still at IPC, and another updating a friends holiday villa’s website. In both cases after initially sketching out some basic layouts, it was quickest to build them for real. I think this is my slightly less stringent take on Getting Real.
