  • Stephen Willats , how tomorrow looks from then…

    , ,

I saw these photo collages at the Tate modern ages ago and didn’t know what to make of them. Really struck me they were using the visual language of service design. But was very struck by their combination of messaging, diagrammatic structure and provocative text. I have spent a while looking around the internet and…

  • Andrew and Hugue

    , ,

A portrait of my friends Andrew and Hugue who run an amazing holiday let at Casale Monticchio in Umbria. I was thinking about figurative British painting in the sixties and seventies, and had got them to pose in the style of the American Collectors (Fred and Marcia Weisman) from 1968 by David Hockney.

  • Basketballs on walls

    , , ,

I had the idea that you could take a mould from a basket ball and use it to make indoor ceramic wall planters.

  • Flower Vase

    , , ,

When I started my pottery course at Parade Mews Pottery in Tulse Hill, I was determined not to make any pots. But you end up making vessels of one sort or another as thats whats pottery is about. This was the first big piece I made and is inspired by Eduardo Chillida.

  • Modular plywood bookcase

    ,

Following the platform bed, I wanted to explore building a modular bookcase system. It is designed to fill an entire wall 3600mm wide and 2400mm high in my house. Again its CNC cut plywood that I drew out in Illustrator and had cut out of 18mm birch plywood.

  • School play scenery

    ,

St Judes Year Six always puts on an end of year play. It’s a perfect way to celebrate the student finishing primary school, and makes a break from SATs. This year it was a musical Alice in Wonderland. My daughter volunteered me to help out with the scenery.

  • CNC plywood Platform bed

    ,

I wanted to make a platform bed to sit in the roof space of my daughters bedroom. The ceiling slope follows the profile of the valley roof, so there is just room to put a platform in. I also wanted to experiment with CNC router cut plywood and cantilevered wall supports.

  • Pop chimney pots

    ,

When I was adding a new storey to my house, I was required by the council to keep my chimneys, as we are in a conservation area. Even though there are no chimney breasts in the house now. So, I thought the least I could do was cheer up the roof scape on the street…

  • Floating Sharks

    , , ,

Went to see Ashley Bickerton’s show at Newport Street gallery and was very taken with the hammerhead sharks floating around the space. For me Bikerton is something of a throwback to the eighties/nineties New York art scene. But I first saw the shark idea at Serpentine galleries in a show called ‘Some went mad some…

  • EY Travel assessment

    , , ,

Energized Work was asked by Ernst & Young Global Limited to upgrade their mobility offering for their corporate clients. A corporation would buy EY’s mobility services and expect EY to be able to manage their travelling staff’s tax, immigration, and travel risk. Large corporations need to move their employees around the world, and EY offers…
