My thoughts on design, and what inspires me

Transformer

Diamond dogs …with kill appeal, Sashay on the boardwalk, scurry to the Ditch, just another future song, lonely little kitsch.

Gala Mitchell and Ernie Thormahlen dressed up by Anthony Price, whilst David Bowie sits in one of his suits. David Bowie and Mick Ronson produced the album.

everything transformed…

One is starved for Technicolor up there

a-matter-of-life-and--death

When Peter Carter, played by David Niven bails out of his burning plane, with no parachute and survives, it is because his angel, Conductor 71, has missed him in the english fog. Conductor 71 is dispatched to earth to convince Peter that he must return with him to heaven. Heaven is black and white and earth is technicolour. In one of the great example of breaking the fourth wall, as the rose on his lapel transitions from black and white to colour to indicate leaving heaven and returning to earth, the Conductor remarks, ”One is starved for Technicolor up there”. Another, fleeting rather joyous moment.

Because I just went gay all of a sudden

Aunt: Who are you?
David: Who are you?
Aunt: But who are you?
David: What do you want?
Aunt: But who are you?
David: I don’t know. I’m not quite myself today.
Aunt: Well, you look perfectly idiotic in those clothes.
David: These aren’t my clothes.
Aunt: Well, where are your clothes?
David: I’ve lost my clothes.
Aunt: But why are you wearing these clothes?
David: Because I just went gay all of a sudden!

Surfing the web with Marshall McLuhan

page from the medium is the massage business man on a surfboard
Happenstance or coincidence for the third day in a row I have found myself talking to somebody about this page from the medium is the massage. The contrast between the businessman and all the establishment ideas he stands for and the anti-establishment act of surfing is great. But I was wondering what had happened to the idea of ‘surfing the web’. Its not a phrase you hear that much these days. Is it that we now all search, has google ruined the serendipity of the web, how do you accidentally come across things now?

Apparently McLuhan was also responsible in part for the use of the ‘surfing’ metaphor,”Heidegger surf-boards along on the electronic wave as triumphantly as Descartes rode the mechanical wave.”

APOLLO 16 ASTRONAUTS CHECK OUT LUNAR ROVER VEHICLE 2

The colours on this photo are retro because its an old photo, no instagram photo filter trickery here, the world was this colour back then? The original is here.

The full credit from the NASA Image Library is: In the Manned Spacecraft Operations Building, Apollo 16 lunar module pilot Charles M. Duke [left] and commander John Young checked out operation of Lunar Roving Vehicle 2 [LRV-2] which will carry them on Traverses of the Moon’s surface. As they simulated an EVA on the Moon they activated all LRV systems to assure operation within design specifications. Apollo 16 backup commander Fred Haise and Backup lunar module pilot Edgar Mitchell also simulated a mission on the lunar surface during the day. Apollo 16 is scheduled for launch from the Kennedy Space Center on March 17, 1972.
